Female!Sokka and Male!Katara. It was really difficult coming up with designs for the genderbends for these two (it’ll be just as hard doing it for everyone else too…), and it’s even more difficult thinking about how they’d be characterized when they’re the opposite gender because both Sokka and Katara, more than any of the other characters in ATLA, are very much defined by their gender roles. Katara is the mother, she does the sewing and the cooking and the cleaning (and is badass on the side! The thing that’s perfect about Katara is that she fulfills the traditional “feminine” role AND is a kickass waterbending master who can more than take care of herself). Sokka is the “man of the house” and he hunts and is responsible for protecting his sister. Reversing their genders messes with such huge chunks of their identities. If f!Sokka were the nonbending sister and it was m!Katara who found Aang in the iceberg, I’d bet that f!Sokka would never have gone with them on the journey in the first place. Sokka went with Katara because it was his responsibility to protect her; if Katara were a boy and Sokka were a girl, I don’t think he’d see a need to go with them.
